Administrative Structure
The Film and Television Institute (FTII), located at Law College Road, Pune –411 004 has been declared an Institution Deemed to be University under the 'Distinct Category' in accordance with the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations vide Notification No. 9-5/2024-U.3(A) dated 22.04.2025 issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The name of the institution shall be "Film and Television Institute of India Deemed to be University" under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, herein after referred to as FTII.
The Executive Council shall be the highest governing body of the institute. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the academic and administrative head of the institute. The Academic Council of the Institute shall be decided on matters of academic nature and comprise faculty drawn from its campuses and external experts.
Eminent past Chairmen include Mr. Shyam Benegal, Mr. Mrinal Sen, Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Mahesh Bhatt, Mr. Girish Karnad, Mr. Vinod Khanna, Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy, Mr. Saeed Mirza, Mr. Gajendra Chauhan, Mr. Anupam Kher, Mr. B.P. Singh, and Mr. Shekhar Kapur.
The Vice Chancellor of the Institute serves as its Executive Head and implements its policies and programmes. Shri. Dhiraj Singh is currently the Vice Chancellor of the FTII.
